I can't take credit for the headline, but I can take credit for NOT being one of the guilty.  It is very easy in the Internet Age to set up a quick and dirty business to sell just about anything.  That also goes for promotional products and apparel items.  I'm here to tell you that I'm not one of those people.

First, I've been an EmbroidMe owner for three years now.  I have more experience in the industry than over half my colleagues.  Additionally, that means I have weathered one of the toughest economic cycles of my lifetime.  I have also learned enough that I consider myself 'advanced' in the industry.  I personally know how to apply a variety of decoration techniques to apparel and other items.  I know where to look for new, unique items for your next promotion.

Second, I think like a marketing professional rather than a salesperson.  I can help my clients with their branding problems as well as recommend promotional items to compliment most marketing challenges.  I spent 10 years working as a marketing manager in the technology industry before getting into my current business.  Instead of considering myself a garment decorator or a pen salesperson, I consider myself a marketing consultant.

Finally, I have spent the time and effort to work on certification from my industry.  I recently received my BASI (Bachelor of Advertising Speciality Information) and am very close to getting my MASI.  This means I have taken continuing education credits and attended industry trade shows to learn more about the industry and how to make my business work for you (and me).  While even someone with very few months in the industry can get a BASI, the MASI requires a minimum of three years in the industry and several advanced course credits and attendance at several industry trade shows.

So, the next time you are looking to for a new provider for logo apparel or promotional items, ask the person to tell you about their credentials or their business philosophy.  Look for someone that understands your business needs rather than wants to sell you stuff.
